"Real Me"

Harmony: Okay, hi. First of all, I wanna thank everybody for a really successful raid on the magic shop last night. [she applauds] Good job, minions! Yes, you deserve it. Secondly, somebody remembered to pick me up the sweetest little unicorn!

So yes, I did indeed paint a ceramic unicorn at my favorite DIY place just so a celebrity could sign it.  It was a lot of fun to make and Mercedes McNab was super nice.  She was a good sport about signing it, which is funny since she was asked during the panel if she collected anything like the vampire she played in Buffy, Harmony, did, to which she replied, "Shoes."  She went on to say that she actually smashed all the unicorns she could at the end.  :(  So I cautiously approached her and handed over my unicorn and asked politely to not break it.  She laughed.

This is just the beginning of my Austin Comic Con post(s).  Even though this was the only crafty thing I made for the event, the con includes aspects pretty important to the blog (the titles and all) and I LOVE Buffy and geeky stuff, so I just want to blog, at length, about it.

"Something Blue"

Willow: "Well, baking lifts about 30% of my guilt. But only 7% of my inner turmoil."

I really do love the the pottery studio I go to.  And when I walked in early this spring, I saw a GIANT cupcake.  How could I NOT paint it!?!

I wanted to make it fun and multi-colored.  It took many hours to finish, but I did it in one sitting.  Since it's an awesome storage cupcake, what better to use it for than cupcake liners?  I have so many and they were all over the place.  I've been using for a few months now and it has been a great accessory and storage container.

During a visit from my mom, we decided to go to the studio and she painted a complimentary mini cupcake magnet for me.  It's super cute!  Thanks mom.

I hope you enjoyed this short, simple post about cupcake ceramics.

Be crafty,

"Flooded"

Dawn: "So what do we do?"

Buffy: "Easy. We burn the house to the ground and collect the insurance. Plus, fire. Pretty."

Driving around Southlake, Texas, I happened to pass by a Paint Your Own Pottery Studio.  I could not resist the temptation to stop and check it out.  I hadn't done ceramics painting since 7th grade and I remember it was my favorite part of art class.  My friend, Erin, accompanied me  on one of their Ladies Night (No studio fees and BYOB, how could we resist?).  While Erin tackled a race car bank for her guy, I wanted to go for some irony for my guy.

Bear sells insurance for State Farm and as soon as I saw the gecko, I knew that I HAD to paint it for him.  Even better, I painted on a t-shirt that reads, "I <3 State Farm," similar to the "I <3 NY" shirts.  15 minutes may save you 15% or more, but it took me about 3 hours to paint. I think it turned out perfectly!!

Bear now proudly displays it on his desk in the office and frequently get comments on it.  I'm pretty proud of myself on this one.  :)

Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.  (Can I get a hot tub!)

Be crafty,
Kris
